Christina Carpenter has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about ten months, attending an average of three to four classes per week after learning about us via our ClassPass opportunity. Christina came to us in search of a group fitness class that combined HIIT and cardio. She came with an initial personal goal of gaining more lean muscle. She expected a variety in exercises that would push her harder than she could push herself while working out on her own. Those expectations were definitely met. Since joining our family, Christina has noticed a significant stride towards her goal. “I have noticed that I have much leaner muscle and an increased exercise tolerance,” she says. Part of Christina’s fondness for our facility comes from the facility itself. Upon arriving for the first time, Christina remembers being surprised by “how much can be packed into such a small space and how well it works. The showers are clean and products in the bathrooms are good, which is always helpful.” Christina was also surprised by the size of the classes and the impact they had on her experience. She recalls, “I liked the small classes and the structure of the workouts initially. After going to the classes for a while, I also think the coaches do a great job at explaining and giving corrections.” These coaches have made a deep impact on Christina beyond their corrections. “All of the coaches are honestly great. I always feel like even in full classes, they are able to provide personal motivation and instruction,” she gushes, “I love that I can get in an intense workout in a short amount of time. I also like the community aspect of it. It makes me push myself even when I might be tired.” All of these aspects have come together to create a truly positive environment for Christina that has pushed her to achieve and exceed her fitness goals and obtain a second family in the process.

Jon Thompson-Wang has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for three years, attending about four to five classes per week after hearing about us through a Facebook add. Prior to joining our family, Jon had been experiencing horrible back and neck pain and was even receiving injections into his neck and spine to ease the pain. His original motivation for attending our RX classes was his father and sister. He says, “My dad kept fit well into his 80’s. My sister joined a similar program in Florida in her 60’s and had amazing results.” The results began to speak for themselves almost instantly. Jon now has increased mobility, increased energy, better posture, increased flexibility, and has seen a major decrease in his neck and back issues, so much so that he no longer relies on injections for pain relief. Jon’s original personal goal was to keep his flexibility for as long as he could as well as maintain a healthy heart and mind. He says, “I went in with a totally open mind. And my expectations were exceeded beyond what I could have ever expected.” These exceeded expectations are due in part to the amazing coaches that have been with Jon every step of the way. In regards to the coaches he has worked with, Jon says, “Coach Billy keeps me moving and pushing me to succeed. Coach Danny is amazing with encouragement and humor. And the amazing Coach Sarah helped me recover from a foot injury. Accomplishing my first successful rope climb and handstand is probably the most impactful experience I’ve had here.” Jon’s favorite aspect of the RX classes is the feeling of accomplishment that he receives after he finishes a workout as well as the long term results that follow. Beyond the wonderful coaches, Jon found our fitness family to have an overwhelming sense of community. He says, “Something that surprised me about the facility was the welcome and the sense of community. There is a great deal of acceptance no matter what level of fitness you’re at. The inclusivity is one of my favorite aspects of the community here.” The combination of dedicated and supportive coaches and an equally dedicated and supportive community of athletes has made for an ideal workout environment for Jon that he has come to value very strongly. He says, “This was by far the best decision I’ve made since moving to the city.”

Melissa Horowitz has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for almost two years now, attending an average of three classes per week since September of 2017. She originally heard about the program through a good friend, and attended her first class during the special edition workout dedicated to honoring 9/11. Melissa remembers “I took my first class on 9/11/17, I can still remember the workout in honor of 9/11, and fell in love right from the start.” Her original motivation for coming to this program was to find a regime that would allow her to feel like she was getting an effective workout while still having a positive, fun, and encouraging experience. She had set a personal goal of improving her strength, stamina, and form with some heavier weights and more challenging exercises while also gaining some athletic friends along the way. She says, “There is no worse feeling than going to a gym and feeling like the coach isn’t supporting you, so I wanted to find a place that was the exact opposite of that.” And it is safe to say that Melissa found exactly what she was looking for. “All of my expectations were beyond exceeded. Hands down, these classes are the best classes offered. I have tried many different classes at different studios throughout the neighborhood and NYC, and nothing beats these classes. Between the programming, amazing and challenging workouts created by the coaches, modifications offered by coaches for injuries, support offered by the coaches and fellow athletes in the room, cleanliness of the studio and equipment, which is so important, and the smiling faces at the front desk, nothing beats the experience offered at this place.” Melissa was also pleasantly surprised by the amount community-building she was able to engage in during these classes. She was “surprised by how nonjudgmental the coaches and fellow athletes are. Everyone in the gym is supportive and encouraging and challenging you to do your best.” She was also surprised by her fellow athletes and how supportive they all were of one another. “Fellow athletes stay at the end of workouts to cheer on other athletes who are finishing their workouts. It seems like people are always on the constant go in NYC, but here everyone stays until everyone is done, and the cheering is such a great motivator and makes you feel like part of a community.” Melissa is also blown away by the incredible coaches that have worked with her, having a kind word to share about each and every one of them. “Coach Patch is just phenomenal and amazing in every way. He is there to correct form, push me to use heavier weights, challenge me, motivate me to work harder and faster, and make me laugh. Coach Julia is so supportive and really makes sure my technique and form is spot-on. Her warm-up is also amazing and I love all of the stretches. Coach Danny just always makes me laugh while also challenging me to by my best. He was one of the first coaches I worked with. I love that Coach Billy really explains each of the exercises and comes to each station to keep motivating me to work my hardest.” Overall, Melissa has been very pleasantly surprised by her experience at this program and continues to have her expectations exceeded by the wonderful classes and inspiring community. “My favorite aspect of the classes is the diversity in the workouts each day. My favorite aspect of the community is that everyone is supportive of each other. I love that I feel like I can speak with the coaches about any questions or concerns, and that they community is not at all intimidating. Everyone is so friendly, and I think it’s a ‘work hard, play hard’ motto. We all work hard, but we are also having fun.”

Dudley Hancox has been an incredible member of our fitness family for nearly three years, attending an average of two to three classes per week. He heard about this program through a Class Pass advertisement, and quickly realized that he enjoyed it enough to want to become a member. Dudley came to this program looking to lose weight, gain strength, and begin to set some more specific fitness goals of his own. He says, “I wanted to achieve bodyweight mastery and strengthen my joints to avoid injuries as I get older. I wanted to burn calories and get sore, but recover.” Dudley was pleasantly surprised by how much his expectations were exceeded. “I have found that I am stronger in my upper body and I am less prone to those ‘just getting up in the morning’ injuries that tend to plague people who, like me, have fairly sedentary jobs and are of a certain age. I was surprised by the ability of the workouts to challenge everyone, from experienced fitness folk to newcomers.” However, Dudley’s fitness goals were not the only things that were exceeded through this program. He also discovered a brand new community. “I went to other gyms and often felt intimidated by the cliques and general Bro-culture that surrounded them. But this place was always inclusive, never clique-y, and the coaches were friendly, accepting, and made everyone feel welcome while still being challenged. The diversity of the community that comes is very pleasantly surprising.” One of the most influential aspects of this welcoming community is the tremendous coaches and their support. Dudley says, “My morning classes with Nate or Danny were always fun. And my evening classes with India and Patch are fantastic. The coaches are great and very engaged with every athlete.” The wonderful support of the coaches and owners have encouraged Dudley to bring his family along on his fitness journey. “I’d like to give a shout out to Billy De La Rosa who reached out to me during my Class Pass months and suggested I join, who has been very supportive of my progress and encouraged my daughter to come and start her own fitness journey.” Dudley has come to value his fitness community as a family of its own and states that, “the variability of the workouts, the fact that every day is challenging without being repetitive, the smiles, and partner workouts that allow athletes to lift each other to better performance,” are what truly make this community unlike any other fitness experience.

Neha Reddy has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for roughly two-and-a-half years now, attending an average of four to five classes per week. Neha originally came upon our fitness center while looking for fitness classes near home, and was immediately drawn to the RX classes. Neha specifically came to this fitness program in search of a group class experience and a coach that would motivate her to increase her strength through exposure to a variety of exercises. She had a personal goal of increasing her strength, and through dedication and support from her wonderful coaches, she exceeded that goal. She says, “I really enjoyed working out with a coach. My strength has improved significantly.” Neha worked with several of our dedicated and experienced coaches and has enjoyed each and every one of them. She states, “Coach Julia is extremely good with her technique and corrections. I have done numerous classes by Coach India and Patch in the past that I liked. I like when coaches like Ippolita do cool down stretches with the class in addition to a warm up. I also really like the way Ippolita, Patch, India, and Julia correct form throughout the class. And I really enjoy Billy and Kari’s classes too. They keep pushing and motivating you throughout.” These coaches have allowed Neha to build endurance in addition to strength and enjoy herself while doing so. In addition to the above-average programming of the classes, Neha has found the reasonability of the classes very helpful. “I really appreciate being informed when deals are going on. I like the packages where you can buy bulk classes in advance. The reasonable deals for classes are a huge plus for me.” However, the advanced fitness and incredible deals were not the only aspects that were pleasantly surprising to Neha during her time here. Upon first arriving, Neha remembers “Once I came in I really liked the people. Everyone is warm, friendly and supportive no matter what your fitness level is.” It is the intense yet effective programming, wonderfully supportive coaches, awesome deals on classes, and welcoming family environment that have made Neha feel truly at home in our fitness family.

Paul Karam has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about one and a half years, attending an average of three classes per week after hearing about us through a social media add advertising our six week challenge. Paul’s search for a gym was fueled by his wanting to get back to playing basketball at a higher level. He wanted to lose weight, improve his core strength, and lead a more active lifestyle. He says, “My personal goals were an improved core, weight loss, and the capability to make RX a lifetime thing.” Due to his dedication to our fitness family, he is now able to balance the stress he receives from work and general New York City lifestyle with adrenaline rushes from his new workout regime. He has also noticed a major improvement in overall strength, as well as leaner muscle, stronger quads, and a general increase in energy. Thanks to the RX classes he has been consistently attending, Paul has been able to get fully back into basketball and now plays at an Intermediate/Advanced level in a New York City League. While many aspects of our community served as a pleasant surprise to Paul, one of the first things Paul was surprised by was the way in which the facility itself was being used. He says, “Despite being slightly smaller in size from most typical gyms, you will pull in more work at this facility than any other gym.” Of course, the facility would mean nothing without the expertise of our wonderful coaches. In regards to the coaches Paul has worked with, he says, “Coach India, Adbel, Eric, Julia, and Patch are amazing coaches. They make sure you are always pushing your limit.” It is these coaches that create the energy and variety in exercises that Paul absolutely loves. In addition to the amazing coaches, our fitness center is notorious for its unique sense of community. Paul says of the community here, “Everyone is friendly. Coaches and staff are always smiling and enjoying what they do. This community is amazing and the coaches are passionate.” It is safe to say that Paul has received more than what he originally expected. He has achieved and exceeded his fitness goals while gaining an incredibly warm, welcome, and supportive family in the process. “This is the best place to work out in New York City,” Paul says.

Julice Takeno has been a dedicated member of our fitness family since October of 2017. After hearing about the program via a Groupon advertisement, Julice has been attending an average of five to six classes per week. While Julice has nothing but glowing reviews for our fitness program, her progress in the past few years speaks for itself. Before Julice joined this program, she was attending a bi-weekly Pilates class which allowed her to join a few 5K and 10K races. However, just a few years with our program and she was able to complete her first half marathon in 2018 as well as a fifteen-mile race, which later allowed her to qualify for the NYC Marathon. Julice originally came to our program with the personal goals of “becomeing more fit as well as getting stronger to run my races, especially the half marathon.” Julice was slightly intimidated by the notion of joining our program together, stating, “When I first saw a promotional video, I thought I would never be able to do a box jump or climb a rope, so I was expecting to do a lot of work but always thought I would not be able to do it.” But after some helpful encouragement from the wonderful coaches and fellow athletes, Julice quickly began to feel at home. “The coaches are super nice and friendly and they keep you motivated. I like the way the coaches motivate me to always exercise better. They push me a lot every single class. Without them I think I would be nowhere where I am now.” These coaches have helped her to achieve and exceed her fitness goals. She says, “Every time there is something new to try. I’m improving my conditioning.” Julice’s progress over the years has been a great source of pride within our fitness community. She has achieved an overwhelming amount of fitness and personal success, and her fitness family has been there to support her every step of the way. “This community is really nice, and everybody is super friendly. I’ve gotten so much stronger and I feel motivated to always comes to the classes.”

Max Yarmolinsky has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for two years now, attending an average of two to three classes per week. His original intention for finding a fitness program was to find a way to take control of his fitness and health after having previously struggled with getting himself to go to gyms regularly. His search led him to our block where he simply walked by our facility, became curious about what was going on, and went on in to observe. Since that day, Max has not looked back, and the results speak very clearly for themselves. Max says, “I am stronger and better conditioned, and my lungs feel better. Also my core and back are much improved. Before, I could hardly do a single pushup. Now, I can do twenty pushups unbroken.” His main goal upon coming here was to build muscle and reduce fat as well as work on his general conditioning and stamina. He was expecting the workouts to be challenging, and his expectations were met, exceeded, and then some, due in part to the diligent attention of our expert coaches. Max says, “I was expecting the workouts to be challenging and they definitely exceeded my expectations in that regard. The coaches really push you to work. The staff and coaches are very responsible and care about my fitness. I had my first class with India and I found this class very inspiring. I continue to enjoy her classes. I have also been impressed by Julia and Danny as they are incredibly committed, consistent coaches. More recently, I have also enjoyed taking Eric’s classes as well. Also, Sarah and Patch do great jobs with the RX classes.” In addition to the coaches, Max was also pleasantly surprised by the state of our facility itself. He states, “The place is always renewing itself. For example, the addition of the new assault bikes, the new sliders and dumbbell equipment, check-in kiosks, everything keeps improving.” The constant improvement of our facilities has made way for some incredibly effective programming that shows itself in our RX classes. There is more emphasis on functional movements and cardio.” While the brilliant programming, great facilities, and dedicated coaches are a major plus for Max, what has really kept him here is the passionate family atmosphere of this community. He says, “I have noticed that there is a pervasive positive culture here from the moment I joined two years ago. People frequently say hello to you and are very friendly even if they have never met you before. The support staff are all great people. The coaches are all amazing athletes but are still very humble friendly people. I really enjoy working out here.”

Christine DeClue has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about four month, after previously being a member three years ago before taking a break to train for the NYC Marathon. She attends an average of six classes per week, after having heard about us through her sister who had seen an advertisement for our New You Challenge. Christine came to our facility with the initial goal of losing some weight as well as learning to live a healthier lifestyle and become stronger. She came expecting a very intense workout, and that is exactly what she got. “The classes definitely make you work hard and push yourself. While the coaches are always there to encourage you and make sure that you are pushing yourself,” she says. And these intense workouts have done amazing things for Christine. Before coming to our facility, Christine had run the 2018 NYC Marathon but had noticed a lack in motivation and positivity in the process. After coming to our facility, she has lost about ten pounds, has developed a significant amount of muscle, and has begun to feel extremely motivated and positive. “I am happy about myself and how far I have come both emotionally and physically,” she states, “I was motivated to take the RX classes because of how they made me feel. It is such a great feeling to know that you have pushed yourself to your fullest and have people encouraging you and supporting you.” Christine’s amazing physical and mental transformation is due in part to our highly trained and passionate coaches. In reference to some of her greatest experiences with our coaches, Christine says, “I have taken India’s classes from the very start. She is very encouraging and always has a positive attitude. She has always pushed me to work my hardest and her classes are always so much fun. I recently started taking Patch’s classes. He is also one of my favorites. He also encourages me to push myself as much as possible, while always having such a positive attitude and fun spirit. They both make me look forward to a fun and good workout.” While the weightlifting exercises, snatches, and wall walks are some of Christine’s favorite aspects of the classes, a great deal of her fondness for our program comes from our positive community. She says, “I was surprised by how friendly and supportive everyone is, regardless of their experience with working out. I love the positive environment and friendly vibe of this facility.” It is this friendly vibe that has allowed our facility to become family for Christine. Her observation that, “no matter your shape, your size, or your experience, everyone is extremely supportive, friendly and encouraging to one another,” goes to demonstrate what an intense workout in a positive environment can do.

Michiel Klaassen has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about six months now, attending an average of four to five classes per week after first hearing about us through a ClassPass opportunity. Michiel came to our facility with a main objective of getting stronger and dropping body fat percentage. He says, “I wanted to see what I could achieve if I really committed. I expected an intense workout, and that is exactly what I got.” These intense workouts have allowed Michiel to gain great results in a relatively short period of time. In regards to his most noticeable differences, Michiel says, “I gained a lot of strength. Most of my weightlifting personal bests have drastically increased. Also, it has transformed my physique. I dropped eight pounds and I achieved a clean, lean look.” Michiel’s success is due in part to the wonderful coaches at our facility. In particular, Michiel speaks of coach Eric Rivera, saying, “Eric taught me to really commit and focus, proving how much of a mind game fitness can be sometimes.” It is the combination of our incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable coaches and our entirely unique and effective workout regime that has created the atmosphere that Michiel has come to call his fitness home. He says, “The atmosphere at this place is great and the trainers are incredibly knowledgeable, focusing on form and technique. Also, the classes are challenging and fun; some of my fellow athletes have actually becomes my friends. I love it all (except the burpees).”

Damien has been a faithful member of our fitness family since December of 2018, attending an average of five classes (sometimes as many as six or seven) per week. Damien initially found out about us through a Google search after realizing he was not progressing in his current fitness regime. Prior to attending classes in our facility, Damien went to Blink gym, which had become boring to him. He says, “I was bored with my regular gym. I wanted to do something social too. I had previously played volleyball but I found this wasn’t for me. I decided to try this type of fitness again. I didn’t have any specific goals. I was just wanting to change things up to keep fit.” His search for a more wholesome and effective fitness routine brought him here, and Damien has already begun to notice some extreme differences. He says that he has noticed “fat loss, muscle gain in legs, forearms and trapezius. I can see my abdominal muscles now. Overall, I feel much healthier, fitter, and happier.” Upon first arriving at our facility, Damien did not have many elaborate expectations. He was simply expecting another place to work out. What he did not expect was the community that he had walked into. He says, “My expectations were exceeded since the community is so friendly.” Since coming to our facility, Damien has become immersed in our wonderful circle and has found his own group with the community. He states, “I was surprised at how many friendly young (gay) men there were at the gym. Those guys have been so welcoming and have become great friends. The friendly small community feeling is my favorite aspect of the classes and community.” This close group of friends has really pushed Damien to perform his best at our facility while still feeling welcomed and accepted. He is impressed by the community, impressed by the workouts, and most importantly he is impressed with himself and how quickly he has been able to lose body fat, gain muscle, and find a fitness regime that makes him feel good about himself.

Matt Russell has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about eighteen months, attending an average of three classes per week. His journey with us began when he simply walked by our facility and became intrigued. He had no initial expectations for his experience with us other than his long-term goal of becoming stronger and getting himself to the point in which he could remain consistent with his attendance. In the eighteen months that he has been with us, his goals and expectations have been more than achieved. He says, “I didn’t have any expectations, but I love the classes so they would have exceeded any expectations I would have had.” Matt has become much stronger and has also gained some muscle mass and has greatly increased his flexibility, quite the excession of his original goals. Matt came to us looking for a good workout that included weight training. He found just that when he began taking classes with our wonderful coach Danny. In reference to his experience with Danny’s classes, Matt says, “Danny is absolutely awesome. He is the best.” These coaches not only create the effective programming that has given Matt the results he has wanted; they also help build the community that has made our facility feel like home for Matt. “I enjoy the camaraderie,” he says, “The consistency of the people in the class is great.” This camaraderie mixed with the wonderfully effective workouts have given Matt much more than he expected, wonderful results and a wonderful community.

Anthony Bermudes has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about a year and a half, attending an average of two to three classes per week. Anthony began attending classes here with the original motivation of having coaches who push him in a competitive environment. He had set a personal goal of attending classes three times per week and completing each workout in the top of his class. Anthony’s expectations were exceeded the second he walked through the door and noticed the state of our facility. He states, “What made me choose this gym over other gyms was, at first, the look alone. The turf floors as well as other facilities were very well kept.” Since Anthony’s first experience at this program, he has attended over 130 classes and has noticed a massive increase in his stamina thanks to coaches like Coach India that push him to use each workout to its full potential. Besides the competition and scoring elements of the workouts that Anthony views as some of his favorite aspects of the classes, he has also finds a great deal of positivity within the community that his classes have provided, stating, “Everyone is friendly and committed.” Through our fitness family, Anthony has been able to find a perfect blend of all of his favorite elements of a fitness regime: support, challenge, friendly competition, community, and dedication. He says, “Through my experience, here I was able to meet other regular members that provided an extra push and some fun competition.”

Rich Stevens has been a dedicated member of our fitness family for about two and a half years, attending an average of five classes per week. He discovered our facility via an internet search after having heard about us through the grapevine. Before attending classes here, Rich had never previously experienced a workout regime like ours and did not know what to expect at first. He says, “I’d heard about it, and I was curious, since my goals were always to improve my all-around fitness and become faster and stronger.” One of Rich’s initial assumptions about our workout regime was that it was mostly based in weight lifting and calisthenics. He was very happy to learn that our workouts offer a great deal of diversity. He recalls, “I was happy to learn that there was much more involved in the workouts, like gymnastics skills, mobility, endurance training, and more.” Another pleasant surprise came about when Rich walked into our facility for the first time. He states, “I was impressed by the organization, cleanliness, and use of space. It seemed like a well cared-for place. I still feel that is a strength of this place and many people appreciate it.” Rich’s physical transformation has come in the form of gaining skills that he had never before attempted to accomplish. He says, “Most of the skills that I’ve learned I am doing for the first time.” Rich’s improvement is due in part to the wonderful coaches that have helped to push him along the way. In regards to the coaches he has worked with, Rich says, “Almost all of the coaches had an impact on my training. The more perspectives that one can get from different qualified coaches, the better. I regularly experience a coach explaining a skill that I already ‘know’ in a new and interesting way, and those new cues can sometimes change the way I approach that skill.” These fresh new perspectives offered by our coaches here ensured Rich that he was taken care of not only in terms of fitness, but in terms of community as well. The feeling of camaraderie is one of Rich’s favorite aspects of our fitness family. Upon recalling what he enjoys most about our fitness family, Rich says, “Walking in and feeling like I’m among friends, whether it be coaches or members, is always a nice feeling.”

I wanted to share with you how much of a difference exercising at RX30 together with the changes in my diet has made to my life. I’ve never been a fan of gyms and have always felt incredibly uncomfortable and self-conscious going to them, in fact I used to hate going, period!

That all changed when I started at RX30 (well it was CrossFit Spot back in 2018). I had a few hits and misses with my workout regime and diet throughout 2018, but in 2019 I saw myself in the attached picture and decided it was time to get serious. The support and encouragement that the coaches (especially Kyle and Danny) at the 6:15am sessions gave me along with the general atmosphere of enthusiasm and comradery with the other attendees it was really easy to keep coming back. As I started to see small improvements in my physical fitness, it was easier for me stick to and make bigger changes to my diet. The two factors fed off each other (no pun intended) and soon I noticed the impacts and effects of my workouts and diet were really compounding.

Then COVID-19 hit and we went into lockdown. I freaked out thinking I was going to lose access to the great workouts, guidance and motivation from the coaches at RX30 and the support and social network of the little “6:15am crew” of regulars. Thankfully you and the team swung into action and saved us with virtual workouts and the same care, guidance and enthusiasm was there for us again.

I am so grateful for the way the coaches at RX30 have educated me on how to exercise in a way that is enjoyable and impactful. I truly deeply appreciate that you share the workouts on Instagram so that even though my membership is suspended while I’m unemployed I can still keep working out. I can’t tell you how much the physical workouts have helped me maintain a sense of mental balance since the start of the pandemic and through all the personal dramas I’ve been dealing with.

Anyway, this is a very long way of saying that RX30 has changed my life and I am very grateful. As you can see in the attached picture, from July 2019 to September 2020 I’ve changed a bit, here are my measurements:

Weight: 242 pounds to 185 pounds

Body Fat: 28% to 20%

BMI: 29.9 to 24.1

Thank you for everything you do to create a place where I can learn what to do to get fit and healthy and to love me enough to get my photo taken without a shirt on.
